Who says you can’t see Rome in one day?
This morning we got up early and grabbed breakfast at the Yellow Square Bar across from the hostel. I had an iced coffee and a croissant. I was very excited to show Kaitlin around Rome, one of my favorite cities. We wandered around the area, stopping at the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore for some photos and headed to the Trevi Fountain. It was very busy here and people were lining up to get a closer look, so we carried on towards the Colosseum.
I caught a pigeon outside the Colosseum.

We wandered around the Colosseum and the Roman Forum for a while. It was 35 degrees and there was very little shade in the Roman Forum. We stood in line for what felt like an hour to fill up our water bottles, only to turn the corner and find a fountain with no line!

After the Roman Forum, we had some lunch and gelato to cool off. I was so tired that I can’t even remember what flavour I got, but it was good. We continued our sightseeing, stopping at Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and finally the Spanish Steps. Kaitlin complained about having to walk up the stairs, but it was that way to the hostel. I assured her that the view of the city would be worth the effort. I think we were both feeling pretty hot and miserable by the end of the day.
On the way back, I went inside a random church that didn’t look like much from the outside, but it was beautiful inside.

Back at the Yellow Square, we discovered that there was free pasta every night for guests, so we headed to the bar, of course. Kaitlin went to nap after dinner and I suck around chatting with some other guests. In the evening, I went with a group of them by bus (a very crowded bus – like sardines in a can crowded) to Trastevere, a neighbourhood across the river. We wandered around and shared stories of our travels before heading back to the Yellow Square.
I did over 40,000 steps today.
